Karl Mundt, founder of Trail Ridge Financial, is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and Certified Private Wealth Advisor®. His path to financial planning was anything but a straight line. Born in Durham, North Carolina, and raised in the suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Karl returned to North Carolina to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he studied political science with a focus on international political economies. After graduation, he managed stores for Kinko's across the country, gaining valuable experience in operations and leadership. However, inspired by his mother's dedication to lifelong learning — she earned her PhD while working full-time and raising a family — Karl returned to school to earn his MBA from North Carolina State University.

Since beginning his career as a financial planner in 2004, Karl has consistently sought to expand his knowledge and expertise. He earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® certification in 2009 and acquired his Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®) designation in 2022. He believes that continuous learning is essential to providing the best possible guidance to his clients.

marathon

Beyond his passion for finance, Karl is an avid ultramarathon runner, completing races that range from 30 to 100 miles. This demanding pursuit has reinforced his understanding of the importance of discipline, resilience, and preparing for the unexpected — qualities that inform his approach to financial advising.
